ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

A U.S. lawmaker got a first hand look at an Allentown school that's thriving on the national level.

Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey stopped by Roosevelt Elementary School on Wednesday.

The school is part of a national program called "Coalition for Community Schools" and was recently chosen as a recipient of the 2013 National Community Schools Award for excellence.

Toomey toured the school, talked to students and met with district Superintendent Russ Mayo.
