EASTON, Pa. -

A woman tried to first hide and then throw away a loaded stolen gun while police were investigating a disturbance over the weekend, officials said.

Shaniese Y. Stokes was arrested in the 900 block of Ferry Street in Easton after she threw a silver .38 Taurus underneath a truck parked in the roadway as  police officers were trying to detain her at about 3 a.m. Saturday, said officials, adding that she tried to kick the handgun further under the truck as she was being handcuffed.

The gun was stolen from Christina Schall, officials said.

Police wanted to talk with Stokes after an officer arriving at the scene saw a large crowd in front of 929 Ferry St. and noticed Stoles putting something in her right front jacket pocket that was given to her by a man, officials said.

Stokes, 24, of 2657 Anthony Court, Palmer Twp., Northampton Co., was arraigned on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, tampering with evidence, resisting arrest and receiving stolen property and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $100,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. Feb. 22.
