LOWER NAZARETH TWP., Pa. -

A Luzerne County man is in custody in connection with a shoplifting incident at a department store three weeks ago because his friend gave store security the man's ID before the two of them drove off, officials said.

Jon J. Njagu was a passenger in a car stopped by a loss prevention official from Kohl's at 3768 Easton Nazareth Highway, Lower Nazareth Twp., Northampton Co., on Jan. 3, officials said, after the official saw Njagu and another man walk out with $2,754 of clothing without paying.

The official asked the man with Njagu to identify himself, but he refused, officials said. The man, however, handed the official a Pennsylvania driver's license belonging to Njagu before the duo took off, officials said.

Njagu, 25, of 458 Main St., Kingston, was arraigned early Friday morning on charges of retail theft and criminal conspiracy and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $5,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 2 p.m. Feb. 1.
