A program in the Allentown School District is getting a shot in the arm thanks to a state physician's group.

Officials with the Pennsylvania Medical Society presented a $5,000 grant check to Raub Middle School Tuesday afternoon.

The money will used to expand the school's health careers club.

The goal of the club is to get kids interested in the medical field and organizers say the money will go to good use.

"I always tried to run it for most of the school year, we had a cut in funding the past couple years, but this new check is going to enable us to go for most of the school year again, which is wonderful," said Karen Goldner, the leader of the Health Careers Club.

Organizers say the money will be used to fund the club's field trips to local hospitals and colleges.
