Officials in Northampton County had a mess to clean up after a significant amount of trash from a landfill spilled near the road.
It started around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Chrin Brothers Landfill on Industrial Drive in Williams Township.
About three tiers of trash, which was piled up in the landfill, slid down the side of the slope and ended up near the road, officials said.
According to the Department of Environmental Protection, about eight to 10 acres of the landfill was affected; some drainage pipes were broken and methane wells exposed.
The DEP is monitoring air quality at the site and so far there's no danger to the public, officials said.
A casualty of the trash slide was a utility pole that was knocked down, which caused a power outage, according to officials.
Industrial Drive has been shut down since the slide but the landfill is still open.
The road was closed from near the landfill entrance to Morvale Road.
