The clerk of a Northampton County township is facing termination for allegedly stealing from the municipality.

The Upper Mount Bethel Supervisors have begun the termination process for Township Clerk Amy Fields.

Supervisor Board Chairperson Judith Henckel says the allegations against Fields came to light several weeks ago when another staff member noticed discrepancies in the township's accounting books.

Henckel anticipates Fields' termination will take effect later this week after all the required procedural steps have been taken.

There is no word yet from officials on how much money Fields is accused of stealing.

State Police are investigating.

Fields declined to comment.
