WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. -

Progress can be painful, especially when it comes to rerouting traffic.

Utility crews will close Center Street in Whitehall Twp., Lehigh Co., for four days starting Thursday.

The Coplay Whitehall Sewer Authority's contractor will be working to replace the sewer line dating back 50 years.

Crews will close Center Street from Route 145/MacArthur Road to Sixth Street on Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 18, 19, 22, 23) for the replacement sewer line installation.

The detour will be from Coplay Chestnut Street (at Paulie's Restaurant) north on Ruch to either Ash/Columbia streets to Route 145/MacArthur Road or to Chestnut Street west to MacArthur Road at Sheetz.

The project is part of the two-year, $10 million CWSA Coplay Creek Sewer Interceptor Project that starts from the pump station at Eberhart Road and Lehigh/Water streets through Hokendauqua, Stiles before ending in Egypt.

Part of the funding for the project is from Penn Vest.
