Whitehall School Board votes against tax collector salary increase

The Whitehall School Board voted against a salary increase for the Township Tax Collector at their meeting on Monday night.

Diane Hunsicker has been the Township’s Tax Collector for the last four years and approached the Board to reconsider their ruling against a salary increase for the next term.

“I’m asking you to reconsider because if you pass this motion, then there will be no increase for eight years,” commented Hunsicker.

According to Hunsicker, the Township voted in favor of a salary increase for the next four-year term.

When Board Vice President Tina Koren questioned Hunsicker about the volume of taxes being collected throughout the Township, Hunsicker said there has been a “slight increase” in the volume of taxes collected “over the years.”

Several surrounding municipalities have approved a salary increase for the tax collectors for the next consecutive term including Northampton Borough, South Whitehall Township, North Whitehall Township, and Upper Macungie Township. Parkland School District approved the salary increase for North and South Whitehall Township and Upper Macungie Township tax collectors.

The final vote on the Whitehall Township tax collector salary to remain the same was 7-1, with Koren voting against. Board Member Owen Eberhart was absent from the meeting.
