Whitehall bride accused of fatally stabbing fiance
A 31-year-old woman is behind bars, accused of stabbing her fiance in the heart and killing him on the day they were supposed to be married.
It happened early Saturday morning on Olympic Circle in Whitehall Twp., Lehigh Co. Police have not disclosed a possible motive for the killing, but said it happened after an argument between the couple.
There were still blood stains outside Apartment 7, where police found Billy Rafael Brewster, 36, dying from stab wounds just hours before he was set to walk down the aisle.
"There was an argument, I guess -- woke the dog up, woke us up -- but we didn't hear anything," said Steve Engel, who knew the couple and lives down the hall. "And the gentleman got stabbed."
Brewster's fiance, Na Cola Franklin, was charged with homicide. In court papers, police said four children were in the apartment at the time.
"I just saw a bunch of police in the hallway and kind of a commotion," said neighbor Tim Smith.
Why Franklin allegedly attacked her soon-to-husband isn't clear. Court papers said Brewster was about to go out for food early Saturday morning when an argument broke out and his fiance stabbed him.
Brewster's cousin, staying with the couple for their wedding, said he attempted to break up the fight and witnessed the stabbing.
Neighbors said the couple, who lived there less than a year, did not appear to fight often.
"They had always been quiet," said Smith. "She was really friendly. I didn't really see him that much, but she was really nice."
Engel added: "Shocked, they were very nice people."
69 News asked, "Any sign of trouble?"
"Never, never," he replied. "Very, very nice people. Always said hello, very polite, very friendly."
At her arraignment Saturday afternoon, Franklin cried and appeared dazed. She told,
"I didn't kill no one," she said. Franklin then asked authorities to check on her fiance because she didn't believe he was dead.
Franklin is being held without bail in the Lehigh County Prison. Her next court date is August 17.
