The hunt is on for the person who killed a young woman and left her body off the side of the road in Salisbury Twp., Lehigh Co.
Kimberly Cardona's family spoke out Friday night in hopes someone can help bring her justice.
Cardona, 20, was a graduate of Louis E. Dieruff High School in Allentown and planned to go to college in the fall.
The tragedy of her death has brought her family together for support, and they said they just want to catch whoever is responsible for their pain.
"She's a good girl. She was too good of a girl for something like this to happen to her," said Cardona's aunt, Ana Fernandez, as she choked back tears. "I think there needs to be justice."
It's an emotional plea from a family trying hard not to hurt.
"I don't know why somebody would do this to Kimberly, and we're all hurting very much over her death," cried Fernandez.
It's pain that started close to two days ago when Cardona disappeared. The last post on her Facebook page said, "Happy 4th of July...goodnight and sweet dreams." But she never made it back that night.
"She wasn't home. Her cell phone was off," explained Ken Kocher, who dates Cardona's sister. "We knew something was off. It wasn't like her.
Cardona was killed sometime after 7 p.m. Wednesday, said the coroner, adding that she was assaulted and died from blunt and sharp force trauma to the body.
It wasn't until about 24 hours later when Lanze Lane resident David Bonaskiewich found her remains in a wooded area just a few feet off the side of the road.
"Her head was to the left, she was kinda curled up almost in a fetal position," described Bonaskiewich.
The news was devastating to Cardona's loved ones.
"The last time I saw her she came to my house with her mom," said Fernandez. "But now, I'm going to miss her."
Cardona's family described her as a homebody, but very happy.
"She was a unique person, you know, always outgoing, she would trust anybody, I mean just happy go lucky girl," said Kocher, who added that he will miss her infectious laugh and hopes detectives are able to catch whoever is responsible for killing Cardona. "It's gonna be a hard struggle to get through this, but at the end of the day if we could find out the people who did this and get them what they deserve I think we'll be able to rest a little better at night."
