Woman arrested for supplying gun that man used to fire shots in Nazareth
A woman is facing charges for supplying the gun that a man used to fire several shots into the ground near her sister's car about six weeks ago, officials said.
Kristen Mertz gave a semiautomatic pistol she bought at Cabela's in Hamburg, Berks Co., on Aug. 25 to Damian D. Zamora, even though he was not allowed to possess one because of a felony conviction in New Jersey, officials said. Zamora was with Mertz at the time she purchased the firearm, they added.
A "highly intoxicated" Zamora jumped out from behind the home of Katie Mertz at 17 North Main St., Nazareth, at about 2 a.m. Aug. 30, pulled the pistol from his waist and fired five shots into the ground as Katie Mertz pulled her car into the driveway, officials said.
Kristen Mertz, 24, of 3035 Bath Pike, Upper Nazareth Twp., Northampton Co., was arraigned on a firearm ownership charge and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $35,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. Oct. 22.
