BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A man is facing charges after his wife reported a burglary attempt at their home and police found drugs, officials said.

William L. Reed was taken into custody as he returned to his home at 1222 Railroad St., Bethlehem, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, after his wife Stephanie had telephoned him and police about a burglary attempt, officials said.

Police who were investigating came across a marijuana cigar on the floor of the home, and the Reeds consented to have their home searched, officials said, adding that officers found U.S. Postal Service boxes containing a large amount of marijuana, as well as a digital scale, a box of sandwich bags and several sandwich bags with marijuana seeds in them.

William Reed later admitted the marijuana was his, officials said, and a search warrant was obtained allowing police to confiscate records and electronic devices from the home.

Reed, 40, was arraigned early Thursday morning on charges of possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $50,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 14.
