HELLERTOWN, Pa. -

A woman who made off with stolen merchandise from an auto store undetected was nabbed when she tried to shoplift at a food store next door, officials said.

Abby M. Monteverde was caught stuffing merchandise into her purse at the Dollar General store at 3 Main St., Hellertown, at 4:20 p.m. Thursday, officials said.

When store security searched Monteverde's purse, they also found items from the National Auto Store next door at 7 Main St., officials said, adding that the National Auto manager identified the merchandise as being stolen from his store.

Monteverde shoplifted a total of 30 items worth $200.47, officials noted.

Monteverde, 26, was charged with retail theft and released on $2,500 unsecured bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 5.
