A top executive at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., has left the company "to pursue other opportunities."
Gone is Stephen J. Jones.
He was senior vice president and general manager of tonnage gases, equipment and energy as well as China president of Air Products.
Effective immediately, Seifi Ghasemi, Air Products chairman, president and chief executive officer will assume Jones' responsibilities.
Jones was appointed to the senior vice president and general manager position in April 2009. He was responsible for developing and implementing strategy for Air Products’ global tonnage, equipment and energy businesses.
Jones was appointed China president in June 2011 and was based at the company’s office in Shanghai.
He also was a member of Air Products’ corporate executive committee.
Jones joined Air Products in 1992 as an attorney in the law group, representing various business areas and functions.
In 2001 he transferred to California where he was named California area manager for tonnage gases with responsibility for the company’s hydrogen activities on the West Coast.
In 2003, he was appointed vice president and general manager of the industrial chemicals division.
He was named vice president and associate general counsel in early 2007, and later that year he was appointed senior vice president, general counsel and secretary.
Mr. Jones was born in 1961 in Philadelphia, according to his company biography.
Prior to joining Air Products, Mr. Jones practiced corporate law at Dechert LLP in Philadelphia, primarily in the areas of mergers and acquisitions.
While based in the Lehigh Valley, Jones was active in the community and served on a number of boards of charitable institutions.
Air Products is an international company that calls itself the world’s largest supplier of hydrogen and helium. It also has developed leading global supply positions in growth markets such as semiconductor materials, refinery hydrogen, coal gasification, natural gas liquefaction, and advanced coatings and adhesives.
