Allentown residents are being given an incentive to get rid of their guns.
The Allentown Police Department is holding its third gun buy-back program on Saturday, August 23rd at the 15th Street Armory at 15th and Allen streets.
Residents can turn in their weapons between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Those who turn in functional weapons will be given K-Mart gift cards worth $100.
Non functional weapons will be worth $15 and BB guns will be worth $10.
“Residents can rid of unwanted guns in the home safely and properly and get something useful and valuable in return,” said Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski.
“I’m very pleased that the members of City Council are partnering with the administration and the police department in this effort.”
Police collected more than 40 weapons at the last buy-back event in May of 2013.
This is a rain or shine event.
Officials said those taking part in the buy back should not arrive at the armory before 10 a.m.
Parking will be available on the street and in the shopping center across the street from the armory.
