A Lehigh County woman tried to poison her husband and daughter with medication-laced burritos, police said.
On Monday night, police said 41-year-old Ann Marie Haines of 4712 Yorkshire Drive, Lower Macungie Twp., sat next to her husband with a butcher knife in her hand.
She told him he was a cancer to the family and he was going to cut his throat then kill herself, according to court documents.
The next day, Haines was upset she hadn't been asked to accompany her husband and daughter on a car-buying trip, police said. She made burritos for dinner, and told them only to eat the black bean burritos.
The husband and daughter told police they didn't feel well after eating the burritos, which had a chemical taste and the pan had a substance which appeared to be crushed medication.
When they complained to her about the food, she became aggressive and told them she'd hurt them in their sleep, police said.
Police were called to the home around 10 p.m. Tuesday for a report that Haines had overdosed on her psychiatric medications in an attempt to hurt herself.
Haines is charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and harassment.
Her family was taken to the hospital for treatment and she agreed to a mental health commitment, police said.
