ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

A "Code Blue warming center" will open this weekend in Alliance Hall in Allentown.

Alliance Hall is at 540 Chew Street, just a few blocks north of the center of town.

The center will be managed by the Lehigh County Conference of Churches.

It will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights "due to imminent dangerous weather as well as to assess our community’s need for such a facility."

Guests will be accepted from 7-11 p.m., when the doors will be locked.

Those guests will have to leave the warming center at 6 a.m. to accommodate other Alliance Hall programming.

Guests must sign a self-declaration of homelessness.

There will be awake overnight staffing.

Other than providing a warm place to spend the night and toilet facilities, a bottle of water, a roll of toilet paper and a blanket, no other services will be provided.

Guests will be offered a resource guide should they wish to take advantage of services available to them through the Conference of Churches or in the broader community.

The Allentown YMCA-YWCA also recently opened a "warming center" to be used when temperatures drop below 32 degrees. But it is not open weekends. And people  who go there to seek shelter must leave even earlier, at 5 a.m.
