HARRISBURG, Pa. -

Drivers on the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension should be prepared for traffic delays at the Lehigh Tunnel between 11 p.m.  Friday and  2 a.m. Saturday.

Some will face traffic stoppages of up to 15 minutes in both directions while work is done inside the northbound and southbound tunnels, advises the  Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

Traffic approaching the tunnel will be stopped to allow workers to safely perform maintenance on the closed-circuit cameras. Motorists should be prepared for slow moving or stopped traffic.

The tunnel is on the Carbon/Lehigh County boundary between the Lehigh Valley and Mahoning Valley exits.

Message boards will be activated to update motorists of any changes in the schedule caused by inclement weather or unforeseen traffic conditions.

Travel advisories will be posted  on-line and Highway Advisory Radio (1640 AM) will be activated to provide travel updates.

To avoid delays motorists are advised to seek an alternate route.
