ArtsQuest employee arrested for stealing money from woman's purse
An ArtsQuest employee is facing charges for taking money from a woman's purse while she was taking pictures, officials said.
Nicholas D. Sanchez took $210 in cash from Brittany Willis' purse after finding it unattended in the ArtsQuest building at 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, around 6 p.m. last Friday, officials said.
Willis discovered the money missing after Sanchez had returned the purse to the front desk.
Court papers do not say what Sanchez's job was at ArtsQuest, only that he had just started working there and had finished up some paperwork when he came across the purse.
Willis told police she was at the venue for a concert by the Philadelphia rock band MeWithoutYou, adding that she was a friend of the band's manager.
Willis lost track of her purse while taking photos of the architecture, design and structure of the ArtsQuest building.
Sanchez admitted to the theft after he was seen taking the purse in a surveillance video and was identified by the ArtsQuest stewards supervisor, officials noted.
Sanchez, 21, of 685 Atlantic St., Bethlehem, was arraigned Thursday night on a theft charge and released on $2,500 unsecured bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 10:30 a.m. Sept. 20.
