Two people killed in accident on Route 309

Two unidentified Schuylkill County residents were killed in a Wednesday afternoon accident involving a utility truck and pick-up truck along Route 309 in northern Lehigh County.

The accident occurred at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday on Route 309 on the south side of Blue Mountain, about one half mile south of Gun Club Road in Lynn Township.

Lehigh County Deputy Coroner Craig Hanzl ruled the deaths accidental. He attributed the cause of death to "multiple blunt force trauma."

Hanzl pronounced the passenger in one vehicle dead at 3:48 p.m. Wednesday. She was a 55-58-year-old woman from Schuylkill County.

The operator of the same vehicle was described as a 50-55-year-old male, also from Schuylkill County. Hanzl pronounced him dead at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday.

The pick-up truck and white utility truck came to rest along the southbound side of the road.

The accident is being investigated by Pennsylvania State Police and the county coroner's office.
