Australian threatened to kill children, blow up house
Ali Abbas arrested in Easton
An Australian is behind bars after making telephone threats to a Northampton County lawyer involving the killing of the lawyer's sister's children and bombing of her home, officials said.
Ali Abbas was arrested after showing up at immigration attorney Raymond Lahoud's place of business at 205 South 7th St., Easton, around 12:25 p.m. Thursday, and demanding to speak with him and another man.
The day before, Abbas telephoned Lahoud and said he was going to "take out" Lahoud's sister's children and "blow her house up," officials said.
Lahoud told police he felt "extremely threatened" by Abbas.
Court papers do not say why Abbas made the threats, or describe the relationship between Abbas, Lahoud and his sister.
Abbas, 32, of Arncliffe, a suburb of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia, was arraigned on charges of making terroristic threats and harassment and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $100,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. Sept. 20.
