Authorities: Taser needed to bring down fugitive in Allentown
Five police officers and the use of a Taser were needed to restrain a fugitive trying to escape custody in Allentown, according to court documents.
A criminal complaint against 29-year-old Brian Walbert says the incident happened following a traffic stop in the 500 block of Chew St. on Nov. 5.
Court documents say Walbert was initially pulled over by police for driving a Mercedes with an expired registration. During the stop, Walbert allegedly provided fake identification, but police recognized him as a wanted person.
Walbert began resisting arrest when police went to take him into custody, court documents say.
Walbert physically resisted police's efforts to take him into custody and tried to run away, according to court documents.
He was eventually taken into custody, but not before five officers became involved and a Taser was used, according to court documents.
Charges against Walbert include resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and providing false identification to law enforcement officers.
