A local high school choir will get to share the stage with a legendary rock band during Musikfest next month.
The Bangor High School select choir will get to perform with Foreigner during the band's concert August 7 at 7 p.m.
The high schoolers have been invited to join the band to sing Foreigner's 1984 smash hit,"I Want to Know What Love Is."
Bangor's choir got the honor to perform with Foreigner after winning first place in the WODE Foreigner Choir Contest, which featured videos submitted by local high school choirs.
The choir's version of “Whatever Happened to a Saturday Night” from The Rocky Horror Picture Show was named the overall winner after receiving the most votes during the online voting contest.
"As far as I'm concerned, music is not only the most powerful form of communication between the peoples of the world, it provides a gateway that opens up a fantastic new dimension of feeling and creativity. Anything we can do to provide our young ones with the tools to express themselves through music is our goal in this partnership," said Mick Jones, Foreigner guitarist and founding member.
In addition to sharing the stage, Foreigner is also donating $500 to Bangor High School for use by its choir program.
"The Bangor Select Choir is very excited for this event. The students are grateful that Foreigner is giving them the opportunity to showcase their talents, and for the financial support for the choral program,” said Bangor choir director Chris Connelly.
“This performance will go a long way in showcasing the talented students and the positive things that can come when your school, district, and community insist on supporting the arts in our schools," Connelly added.
