RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. -

A 75-year-old Bethehem man was killed in a two-vehicle accident early Monday morning on Route 309 in northern Bucks County.

The victim, Arthur B. Metcalfe, was driving south in the right lane of Route 309 when he ran into the back of an MCI bus that was stopped at a traffic light, according to state police.

They said the bus was just starting to move forward as the light turned green when it was hit. The front of the 2001 Ford Ranger driven by Metcalfe sustained "heavy and disabling damage," according to police, who report the rear of the bus also was damaged.

The accident occurred shortly before 5 a.m. at the intersection with West Pumping Station Road in Richland Township, just north of Quakertown.

The driver of the bus was not injured. He was identified by police at 53-year-old Ivan T. Ivanov of Allentown. 

No word from police regarding whether the bus was carrying any passengers.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
