Bethlehem Towhship's manager pact officially OK'd
The Bethlehem Twp. Board of Commissioners approved a series of appointments and delegates to various boards and committees during Monday night's meeting.
In a housekeeping item, the five-member legislative body authorized the execution of an employment agreement between the township and future township Manager Melissa Shaffer by a 5-0 vote.
Shaffer, who replaces Howard Kutzler who resigned in October 2013, will begin her duties on March 10th and will be paid $100,000 per year.
Kutlzer became the director of administration on Nov. 7, 2013 in South Whitehall Township.
The board also approved the appointment of Paul Weiss to the township's recreation commission. Weiss of course was president of council until his term recently expired.
"He is an excellent addition to the commission," noted Commissioner Michael Hudak.
In addition, Timothy Brady was reappointed to the township's Civil Service Commission. President Thomas Nolan praised Brady for his "knowledge" he brings to the his position.
Finally, the board approved eight purchase orders, including one in the amount of $6,450 to Sobrinski Painting for a facelift to the board's public meeting room.
Prior to the vote, Vice President Martin Zawarski questioned what, if anything, could be done to improve the room's acoustics without sacrificing aesthetics, specifically questioning if "dense wallpaper" would help.
The answer was no, it would not.
The purchase order was approved with Hudak noting that the facility was constructed in 1998 and the room could use a minor facelift in his view.
One example is that some of the wallpaper is unglued at some spots.
