Hot weather or not, the "mighty milers" are pounding the pavement in Bethlehem.

They're part of a seven-week program designed to get young people interested in running and physical fitness.

Mayor John Callahan was among the adult runners on hand to show them the ropes.

"They go around to different parks throughout the city, get the kids out there, get them running, get them active," said Bart Yasso. "Really show them what it's all about. Create that healthy lifestyle at a young age."

Also Thursday, it was announced that Dave McGillivray will be the keynote speaker for the Runner's World Half Marathon and Running Festival. He's served as the race director of the Boston Marathon since 1988.

The festival will be held Oct. 18 through Oct. 20 in Bethlehem.
