EASTON, Pa. -

An Allentown man is facing drunk driving charges after his car hit three others stopped at a red light in Easton, police said.

The accident happened around 8:15 p.m. Monday on St. John Street at the intersection with Lincoln Street.

Brad Hinkel, 32, of 2047 Baker Street, told police he didn't understand why other vehicles were stopped at the intersection on a green light.

Hinkel's car rear-ended a vehicle at such a strong impact that forced it into two other vehicles, police said.

The drivers of the other three cars told police they were waiting on a steady red  light.

Police said they detected an odor of alcohol from Hinkel, his speech was slurred and eyes were glassy.

His blood alcohol was tested at 0.17, which is more than twice the legal limit, police said.

He was taken to the Northampton County DUI Center.

Charges are pending.

No one was injured.
