A one-car accident closed a busy Allentown street for hours Wednesday morning.

The car hit a pole in the 700 block of Union Boulevard, in front of the former Pig Pen Sports Bar & Grill, around 7 a.m.

David Lewis, 19, of Allentown was speeding, lost control of his car and hit the pole, police said.

He and his 14-year-old passenger had to be freed from the car by the Allentown Fire Department, police said.

Lewis was seriously injured in the crash.  His passenger suffered minor injuries.  Both were taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill, Lehigh Co.
