Churches in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Allentown will be taking special collections Saturday and Sunday to benefit victims of the devastating typhoon that struck the Philippines last week.

The collections are being taken in the churches of all U.S. dioceses, at the suggestion of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Proceeds of the collections will be forwarded to Catholic Relief Services, the Baltimore-based official international humanitarian agency of the U.S. Catholic Church.

Pastors are also being asked to include an intention for the typhoon victims in the Prayer of the Faithful at masses this weekend.
