Charges have been filed against one of two men believed to have robbed a bank in Northampton County of $4,630.
Heath Derizzo, 36, of Harrisburg, is facing charges of robbery, theft and receiving stolen property in connection with a robbery at the National Penn Bank in Northampton on July 19, according to court papers.
He and his accomplice, Dale Mentzer, 35, of Newmanstown, Lebanon County, hit Cihylik Farms & Greenhouse in Allen Township, Northampton County, just before they robbed the North Penn Bank, police believe.
Derizzo and Mentzer were arrested last week in Maryland and are believed to be behind multiple bank robberies in Berks, Chester, Lebanon and Northampton counties.
Derizzo handed a National Penn teller a note that read "put the money in the bag" at about 11:25 a.m. July 19, officials said.
Derizzo and Mentzer were arrested July 24 near Salisbury, Md., after the robbery of a PNC Bank in West Ocean City earlier in the day.
Both men were committed to the Wicomico County Detention Center on charges in the Maryland bank robbery as well as for outstanding warrants in Pennsylvania, police said.
Besides the North Penn bank robbery, police believe both men were involved in robbing the Sovereign Bank in Kutztown, Berks County, on July 11; Northwest Savings Bank in Myerstown, Lebanon County, on July 16, and First CornerStone Bank in East Pikeland Township, Chester County, on July 18.
