EASTON, Pa. -

Crime doesn't pay, especially when you try ripping off the police department.

Charlie Sandt Jr., who is charged with stealing from the Palmer Township Police Department, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday before Magisterial District Judge Jackie Taschner in Easton.

The Northampton County man was contracted to supply the police department with computer services. He was issued a check for almost $24,000 for new computers and software --- but officials said he never delivered the goods.

Sandt was arrested and jailed in late March.

He is charged with theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception and receiving stolen property.
