PALMER TWP., Pa. -

A young boy almost drowned at a family birthday party Thursday evening, officials said.

Police said the 2-year-old boy was celebrating with family when he went under the water and almost drowned at a home in the 1100 block of Keane Road in Palmer Twp., Northampton Co.

It happened when family members lost sight of the boy for a "very short amount of time," police said.

A family member is a lifeguard and was able to pull the child from the water and perform CPR until emergency crews arrived, police said.

The child was taken to Easton Hospital and then flown to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), police said.

According to police, the child is doing well.
