For 12 years now an annual event known as the Community Outreach Benefit in Coopersburg has raised $420,000, helping 34 families who are struggling financially.

Organizers say they hope to help another three families this year, but to do so they'll need to raise $40,000.

"This is a way of telling people- not only financially but also spiritually and emotionally -- that people care, because a lot of folks who have chronic conditions often experience terrible loneliness," said Rev. Rick Guhl, St. John's United Church of Christ.

"Time and time again they say it's not just the money, it's the sense that strangers have reached out to them," Guhl added.

Organizers say they were so thankful folks came out despite the wet weather.
