Eight people are out of their homes after a fire Saturday in Catasauqua.
Flames poured from the home in the 700 block of Crane Street.
Officials say a family of six lived in one half of the twin and two people lived in the other.
No one was hurt but the damage is extensive.
Officials say this fire started around 11 a.m.when a smoldering cigarette butt landed on a pile of wood in the back of the home.
Folks who live in the homes say they're just thankful everyone got out of the house unharmed.
Officials say the fire started at 725 Crane Street.
Ellen Bottazzi lives in the other half of the twin unit.
She said she was on the phone with her son when she noticed something was wrong next door.
"I walked around the side of the house, I peeked around and saw a propane grill had flames on the bottom and I backed away to walk back down and I heard a BANG!" said Bottazzi.
Ellen said she grabbed her dog, some belongings, and ran.
She said the 16-year-old boy who was home next door ran out, too.
"Between the two homes involved, we have eight people who the Red Cross will be asked to provide shelter for and at least some initial assistance with toiletries, etc. for," said Joseph Carl, Emergency Management Coordinator for the Borough of Catasauqua.
Danielle Coffin says she was out shopping with her husband and three other children, when she got the call from her 16-year-old son.
"He said the house is on fire in the back. We just hung up and I knew he was OK because he was outside. So we just rushed home and it was gone," said Coffin.
Neighbors watched the home burn in disbelief.
"I'm sad because they're friends of ours and they're a nice young couple. And I'm just glad they weren't home and that no one was hurt," said Donna Bennage, who could see the flames from her back porch.
Neighbors have started a collection for the Coffin family, who lost practically everything.
