A drug deal bust involving a small amount of heroin paved the way for police to find contraband worth thousands of dollars more, officials said.

Jessica K. Speakman was seen selling 10 bags of heroin to Julia R. Koke and Michael J. Handlovic for $60 in the 100 block of Saint Joseph Street in Easton around 2:45 p.m. Monday, officials said.

When police searched Speakman's apartment at 394 West Nesquehoning St., Easton, they turned up 9,000 bags of heroin valued at $9,000 as well as $1,300 in cash, officials said.

Police also found several used bags of heroin and syringes in the car Koke and Handlovic arrived in to make the deal with Speakman, officials noted.

Speakman was arraigned on charges of delivery of a controlled substance; drug possession with intent to deliver, and criminal use of a communication facility and committed to the Northampton County Prison on #150,000 bail, according to court documents.

Koke, 22, and Handlovic, 21, who are both homeless, were arraigned on charges of possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail each, court papers show.

A preliminary hearing is set for Speakman at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 1; for Handlovic at 9:45 a.m. Oct. 1, and for Koke at 10 a.m. Oct. 1.
