Easton City leaders call on Congress for immigration reform
City leaders in Easton say it's time for comprehensive immigration reform.
On Wednesday night, they want to pass a resolution in City Council, calling on Congress to get it done.
The resolution itself is a symbolic gesture more than anything.
It's full of language that highlights the need for reform.
Even though local legislators can't make their own decisions on the issue, Mayor Sal Panto says passing the resolution is a way the city can urge Congress to do its job.
"It's just asking Congress to do what they're supposed to do. They're supposed to be our legislators. They need to start legislating," Panto said.
The resolution will be introduced to Easton City Council Wednesday night.
A copy of the resolution will be sent to all Pennsylvania state senators and representatives as well as Governor Tom Corbett.
