Easton City Council has hired a former Lehigh Valley resident to become the city’s new director of planning and codes.
George G. Kinney, who currently works in Florida, starts his new job in Easton on March 17.
Kinney, who previously worked in Palmer Township, was selected after an “exhaustive search,” said Easton City Administrator Glenn Steckman.
The $87,000 a year position has been vacant since last summer after Becky Bradley, who had been Easton’s planning director since 2005, left to become executive director of the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission.
Kinney, who has 22 years experience in his field, earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental planning from Bloomsburg University and a master’s degree in city and regional planning from The Ohio State University.
In another move, Council outsourced payroll processing for its 280 employees to ADP Inc.
The city will pay about $35,000 a year for the service.
ADP processes payrolls for other municipalities, including Reading.
