Easton man fails to renovate Freemansburg home
Jerry Allen arrested for taking the money
A 41-year-old Easton man has been arrested for taking a man's money but not renovating his house.
Jerry D. Allen faces two home improvement fraud charges as well as theft by deception.
According to Freemansburg police, Allen was paid a total of $37,000 to renovate a house in the 200 block of Juniata Street in Freemansburg, which the owner had purchased as an investment property.
The owner made payments to Allen on four occasions since 2011, based on work Allen said had been completed.
When Allen stopped returning calls, the property owner learned no work had been done, so he contacted police.
Allen, who resides in the 2400 block of Front Street in Easton, was arrested Tuesday on charges filed against him in August.
The defendant is in Northampton County Prison. Bail was set at $35,000.
Allen had been out on bail after being arrested in July on a similar case in Berks County. That time he was hired to build a sun room on a home in Fleetwood, Berks County.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Jan. 3 before Magisterial District Judge Joseph Barner in Bethlehem.
