The Borough of Emmaus was the recipient of a Sustainable Development Award from the Delaware Valley Green Building Council. Councilmen Wesley Barrett and Nathan Brown presented the award to the Emmaus Council at their meeting Monday night.
Emmaus was recognized for several environmentally friendly and cost-saving changes. Barrett described these changes as individually small, but collectively significant.
The Borough had taken on tasks like replacing lights throughout the community to make them LED. Other projects of note included the community park, baseball field and the South Mountain gateway trail. Emmaus also expanded its compost site.
The Borough Council had looked at these projects as easy decisions.
“It really just seemed like common sense that these things needed to be done,” Barrett said.
Emmaus was one of three communities to win the award in the municipality division.
