ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

Lehigh County Commissioners held their 2014 swearing-in ceremony for five commissioners Monday night, in the public hearing room of the Lehigh County Government Center in downtown Allentown.

The ceremony was followed by the election of new officers.

Inducted into the ranks of the Lehigh County Commissioners by Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Carol K. McGinley were: Thomas C. Creighton III, district one, Percy H Dougherty, district two, David S. Jones, Sr., district three, Geoff Brace, district four, and lastly Michael P. Schware, district five.

Judge McGinley remarked prior to the formal swearing-in that being a county commissioner was a thankless job requiring much time and dedication.

She added, "I wouldn't have it for all the tea in China."

She also noted how encouraging it was to see an increased number of young people who attended Monday's ceremony and meeting.

The invocation and benediction were led by Pastor Bob Stevens of Zion's Reformed 'Liberty Bell' United Church of Christ in Allentown.

Offering the opening remarks, Lehigh County Commissioners' Chairwoman Lisa Scheller said how honored and excited she was for having worked on the board in 2013, and how very much she anticipated the challenges this year would bring.

She also stated she would be working pro-bono in 2014, opting not to take her $8,000 stipend as county commissioner chairwoman.

During the reorganizational portion of the meeting, Scheller was reelected chairwoman and David Jones, Sr., became vice chairman.
