WILLIAMS TOWNSHIP, Pa. -

A section of Industrial Drive will remain closed until mid-October along the western side of Chrin Brothers Sanitary Landfill

The road has been closed as a precaution since March 12, when a large capped section of the Northampton County landfill slid down a hill.  That slide stopped near the intersection of Morvale Road and Industrial Drive, which runs between the landfill and Interstate 78.

The reopening of Industrial Drive will be based on consensus among the state Department of Environmental Protection, Williams Township officials and Chrin operators.

If necessary for future work, that section of the road will be closed again from mid-July 2014  to mid-September 2014.

Chrin estimates about 77,412 cubic yards of waste have been excavated and relocated as of July 13.  The company reports it is relocating about 1,000 cubic yards of waste a day, 5.5 days a week. The work is scheduled to continue into February 2016.
