An inmate killed himself while in the Lehigh County prison, the coroner said.
Frank Reichl-Pritchard was pronounced dead at 9:10 p.m. Thursday at the Lehigh County Prison, 36 N. 6th St., in Allentown.
An autopsy was performed Friday morning and the manner of death was determined to be suicide.
Officials found Reichl-Pritchard, 30, around 8 p.m. in his cell, facing the cell door with one end of his bed sheet tied around his neck and the other end looped over a wall mounted shelf, according to Ed Sweeney, director of the Lehigh County Department of Corrections.
Reichl-Pritchard did not have a roommate and was not under any special monitoring precautions, Sweeney said.
The officer who found him immediately declared a medical emergency and performed CPR until emergency medical personnel arrived, Sweeney added.
He was arrested Jan. 8 after he didn't return from county work release program on Oct. 17, 2013 and was unable to post $7,500 bail.
Sweeney said in addition to the escape charges, Reichl-Pritchard was also facing possession of marijuana charges.
Court documents show he was currently in jail awaiting a preliminary hearing, which was scheduled for Jan. 30.
