A man is behind bars for slicing his girlfriend's finger with a steak knife he was using to keep her from running away during an argument three weeks ago, officials said.
Javier Ortiz cut his girlfriend in her bedroom in the home they share in the 2100 block of Birch Street in Wilson, Northampton Co., around 10:45 p.m. Sept. 4, officials said.
Before Ortiz injured his girlfriend, he had grabbed her by the hair and held the steak knife over his head and said, "I could stab you," and then thrust the knife at his girlfriend each time she tried to leave, officials said.
Ortiz's girlfriend made her getaway after convincing Ortiz to let her get a paper towel to stop the bleeding from the cut, officials said, adding that she ran out the front door to get help.
Ortiz, 38, was arraigned Tuesday night on charges of aggravated assault and making terroristic threats and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $7,500 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. Oct. 2.
