Jose Lugardo facing charges for using funny money
It happened at a Little League stand four months ago
A man made a big error by trying to pass a phony $20 bill at a Little League refreshment stand in Northampton County four months ago.
Jose L. Lugardo was nabbed June 4 after using funny money to pay for snacks at a stand operated by Saucon Valley Diamond Sports during a Little League game at the Dimmick Park ball fields along Tobias Drive in Hellertown, officials said.
Members of the snack stand staff were told to be on the lookout for counterfeit money by Hellertown police, who were investigating several incidents of phony money being used to pay for items from the stand.
At headquarters, Lugardo gave a police a written statement admitting to counterfeiting the bill.
Lugardo was arrested in 2007 for forgery and in 2011 for escape, court papers show.
Lugardo, 32, of 1411 East 8th St., Bethlehem, was arraigned Tuesday night on charges of forgery, theft by deception and receiving stolen property and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $35,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 31.
