Karl Nagel charged in assault, restraint of friend's girlfriend
A man is facing charges for assaulting his friend's girlfriend last year as he was helping to restrain her with handcuffs and a rope, officials said.
Karl D. Nagel hit the woman in the face before putting a rope around her legs at a home in the 4300 block of Newburg Road in Lower Nazareth Township, Northampton Co., sometime after 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 20, 2012, officials said, adding that Nagel then forced the woman to take some kind of pill.
Nagel and the woman's boyfriend, Nicholas J. Yonak, put the handcuffs on her and tied her legs with a rope after Yonak kicked her and knocked her to the floor when an an argument they were having turned physical, officials said.
The home where the assault took place had a video surveillance system, and Nagel was seen carrying the woman out of the home toward her apartment, officials said.
Nagel, 51, of 484 Filetown Road, Upper Nazareth Township, was arraigned late Thursday on charges of assault, unlawful restraint and was released on $10,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. July 12.
