BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A man who had been drinking choked his girlfriend and threatened to kill her in her sleep, officials said.

Keith Nemeth admitted to downing several shots of vodka before getting into an argument that turned physical at 12:15 p.m. Saturday in his apartment in the unit block of West Goepp Street in Bethlehem, officials said.

Nemeth grabbed his girlfriend and began choking her and then threw her down on a bed and told her he was "going to do what your ex-husband should have done" and kill her, officials said.

Nemeth attacked her again in the kitchen, choking her and pushing her against a cabinet and telling her he was going to kill her in her sleep by putting a bullet through her head, officials said.

Police found the woman sitting on a pull-out couch in tears, with red marks on her neck, and the apartment floor strewn with broken glass, melted wax, broken furniture, a can of Miller Lite beer and various liquids, officials said.

Nemeth, 42, was arraigned on charges of assault and making terroristic threats and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $10,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 2.
