EMMAUS, Pa. -

A female pedestrian struck and killed by a freight train in Emmaus on Friday took her own life, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's Office.

The coroner says the 49-year-old woman died after being hit by the train around 2 p.m. near the Harrison Street crossing in Emmaus.

The train, which stopped after hitting the person, consisted of three locomotives, 56 loads and 49 empty cars, officials said.

Officials said the track speed limit in that area is 50 mph, but they did not know how fast the train was going.
