Walmart to open online fulfillment center in Lehigh Valley
Building in Bethlehem to be 1=million square feet
Walmart plans to build the company's largest online fulfillment center in Bethlehem.
The center will support the company's growing e-commerce business, which is expected to see sales of more than $10 billion globally this year, Walmart officials said Tuesday.
The one-million square-foot facility will employ up to 350 full-time workers. It will be dedicated to filling the company's online orders.
"Walmart's announcement today represents more than 350 good, well-paying jobs for people of the Lehigh Valley, and we congratulate them on their choice of Pennsylvania for this critical expansion," said Gov. Tom Corbett. "As Walmart moves forward with expansion of its e-commerce business, we will be a partner in ensuring Pennsylvania and the Lehigh Valley remain a continued part of that growth."
The facility is set to open in the first quarter of 2014 at 2785 Commerce Center, just off Route 412.
Walmart will also open a new fulfillment center in Fort Worth, Texas.
