EASTON, Pa. -

A man is in trouble with the law for hitting his infant son's mother in the eye with a baby bottle during an argument three months ago, officials said.

Jose Caraballo-Ortiz tossed the baby bottle full of formula at the infant's mother during an argument over custody of the child in the apartment they share in the 100 block of West 4th Street in Bethlehem at 3:40 p.m. Sept. 18, officials said.

Caraballo-Ortiz was using the bottle to feed his son, and the victim's eye was bruised and swollen shut when police arrived, officials added.

Caraballo-Ortiz, 24, was arraigned Sunday on assault and harassment charges and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. Dec. 12.
