EASTON, Pa. -

A man who was pushing himself in a wheelchair in the middle of a street last month is facing a drug charge, officials said.

Ronald H. Drexler handed over a cigarette pack to a police officer around 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16 near North 9th and Northampton streets in Easton, and the officer found a glass tube with copper mesh coated with crack cocaine residue inside it, officials said.

Drexler turned over the cigarette pack after the officer saw Drexler pushing himself backwards in the middle of North 9th Street and asked if he had anything in his possession he should not, officials noted.

Drexler, 45, of 915 Spring Garden St., Easton, was arraigned Saturday on a charge of drug paraphernalia possession and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $ 2,500 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 2.
